During his lifetime he gave millions of fans joy, escapism, wonderfull music and breathtaking performances. He broke records and set standards for the industry that probably will never be broken.

Michael Jackson’s death shook the world. Fans of all ages expressed their grief and shock in various states of emotion. This man’s music was the soundtrack of life for many different generations. His songs sparks various memories or feelings for millions of people around the world. Michael Jackson spent almost a lifetime in fame’s sometimes glaring spotlight, but this resulted in a legacy that has left thousands of songs for generations to appreciate and enjoy.

Michael Jackson’s fanbase is one of the most passionate and massive ever to be in musical existence. Every time Michael performed fans would scream, cry, and even faint. This emotional spectrum would only be the result of an equally passionate, emotional artist. Michael Jackson emotions were always present in the background of all his music. Emotional response is linked to emotional subjects in art.

Michael Jackson expressed common human emotion in various pieces of art and music. These songs below illustrate the different spectrum of human emotion Michael so beautifully expressed.

Anger: Michael expressed his anger most effectively through his greatest release, his music. "Scream" is the only song that Michael recorded with sister, Janet. This anthem is about being tired of human injustices and lies that are massed produced by the media. This song’s emotional heartbeat is expressed in anger. This song stands out from other similar anthems because he sang this with his sister. This adds to the emotional intimacy of the song. Feelings expressed between siblings takes the song’s message to a higher plane. There is an emotional place that opens more clearly when creating art with a person who truly understands your insides.

Grief: "Gone too Soon" clearly expresses this emotion most effectively. This song is inspired and dedicated to AIDS victim, Ryan White. Ryan White became a dear friend of Michael’s. Ryan White was merely a teenager when he died of this horrible disease. The lyrics illustrated grief, but gratefulness for the fleeting beauty that is a person’s life.

Loneliness: "Stranger in Moscow" is song laced with feelings of isolation and ultimately loneliness. Michael’s vulnerability bleeds throughout the song’s lyrics and delivery.

Love: Love is a language that every person can relate to on various levels. Although Michael had an massive catalog dedicated to romantic love, the songs that were most powerful were the songs that he wrote about love for the world. "We are the World," and "Man in the Mirror" helped people to evoke feelings of love for the greater human race.

Joy: Most of Michael’s music emoted feelings of joy and happiness through their delivery and musical selection. "Off The Wall," in particular expressed a joy and freedom that is almost tangible. This is a song about self-expression and letting go of the barriers that keeps us from feeling joy.

Faith: "Will You Be There?" and "Keep The Faith" are songs about holding on through difficult periods of self-doubt and depression. Will You Be There has a spiritual emotion to it, while it expresses feelings of thankfulness for human relationships, and loyalty.

These brief emotional explorations of Michael Jackson’s music is by no means complete. Michael Jackson was an emotionally layered human being, and his music is no different. Michael Jackson left his hand print on the world, and the emotional colors he left us in his music will forever live.
